AESIR Negotiates Peace in Dlord/TUF-Tuna War

In a surprising twist, the Dlords/TUF-Tuna war came to an abrupt end today, with an AESIR spokesman indicating that they had brokered the truce. Earlier announcements of an 18:00 press conference in GC led to this brief announcement:

[18:00]*Hucbold Glumra Barbatus, Thegn of Miðgarðr, Jarl of the Uplands, Vidarr of the North issued the following statement on behalf of the Aesir at 18:00 today: “Aesir are pleased to announce that our friends in Dwarven Lords and The Unfettered have reached a mutually acceptable cessation of hostilities. We wish them well with their future plans.”

One minute later, peace was declared between TUF and Dlord:

TUF DAY FOR KARL: YARR Breaks Aegis’ Norweld Siege as Dlords Pile On

Screen Shot 2015-10-14 at 9.31.30 amTUF’s Karl Aegis finds himself embroiled in both wars that his alliance is currently involved in, losing an isolated siege in Elgea while being targeted by Dlords in a siege operation of their own. News of the siege break, which the Times reported on days ago, was sent along by YARR officials:

The Pirate Republic Declares War on The Unfettered While Dlord/TUF-Tuna Rages On

Screen Shot 2016-05-04 at 8.40.36 am
YARR! in green; TUF in red

In a surprise move yesterday evening, The Pirate Republic [YARR!] declared war on The Unfettered [TUF], citing long-standing grievances that center around the alliances’ cohabitation in the Broken Lands desert region of Pawanallpa. In a forum post, YARR! Leader Ranalos began his commentary by stating that he “could give a dozen reasons” for declaring war on TUF, but went to note that “in the 6 months of YARR! nearly every time we’ve been expecting hostile action, it was TUF on the other side,” suggesting an inevitability to the war and a preemptive approach to dealing with the BL military alliance — a casus belli not dissimilar that that of Dlords’ war against TUF-Tuna.

Regionally speaking, Pawanallpa could likely be the epicenter of the war, with Ranalos remarking that “Having an LC alliance and an anti-LC alliance sharing Pawa just isn’t working.” YARR’s presence in Pawanallpa is largely the result of the The Pirate Republic subsuming the old Deathmongers [Death] alliance, which was positioned in that desert region. “The history between Death and Tuf was not able to be erased with a new ticker and new leadership,” Ranalos continued. “There are large personalities on both sides of this, and every time there is conflict we have people on both sides threatening or calling for war.”

TUF was quick to lash out in response to the declaration. While TUF leader Agalloch and Karl Aegis offered terse responses, ajqtrz was more accusatory in his tone, challenging Ranalos’ assertions in his war declaration: “What, exactly, is meant by “isn’t working?” when you speak of both sides being in Pawa?  Have there been skirmishes?  Have TUF members been sending diplos at Yarr members in Pawa?  Are we harvesting where where you don’t wish us to do so?  What, exactly, isn’t working? . . .  You say you could give a dozen reasons but that everyone has been resolved.  Isn’t that the definition of “getting along?” ” he asked, concluding with a call to negotiate an end to the conflict: “So let’s be a bit rational here and you give me your evidence and I’ll present mine, lest we enter into a war needlessly.”

TUF’s Mexican Dwarf called out YARR for essentially “dog-piling” on TUF while it is still in the midst of a war, suggesting collusion between YARR and Dlord: “Wow, you declare while we are in the middle of another war? Did you set Dlord up to this? (Probably).” Mexican Dwarf, however, agreed in part with the inevitability of the war, continuing: “And tbh war was inevitable between us, but illy politics seems that an alliance needs a reason to declare, and they can’t just have a war without a reason. I feel that needs to change but declaring on an alliance currently involved in a war is just being a dick.”

Mjo Mojo: TUF Puffs With .Mjölnir. as Storm Leader Joins During Dlord War

Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 3.12.49 pmTUF has picked up a major piece amid its ongoing war with Dlord, inviting Storm leadership member and GC favorite .Mjölnir. to join their ranks at a critical point of the current war.

Mjo had dropped out of Storm and briefly founded a temporary alliance called HOLY WARS [jihad], for the purposes of assisting in a short-lived conflict involving Lifeless’ alliance The holy Church [holy]. After the conflict was resolved, it was anticipated that Mjo would move back to Storm, but instead has joined TUF.

According to the TUF member page, he has entered the alliance as a “Chief Instigator” — among the highest ranks in the alliance. However, in GC yesterday, .Mjölnir. sought quash any rumors that his appearance in TUF was there as a result of helping them in their war efforts against Dlord:

[16:23]<.Mjölnir.> and i am on a small tour as I am done with jihad

[16:25]<.Mjölnir.> no mate the jihad is done for now

[16:27]<.Mjölnir.> hmmm Bel knows well how I feel …

[16:27]<Belegar Ironhammer> a war with storm would be terrible, especially since I don’t have any umbrellas

[16:27]<Skybreaker> lol, we have caves dug for that bele

[16:27]<.Mjölnir.> I have good love for Bel he is good stock

[16:27]<.Mjölnir.> my respeccts to Dlord

[16:29]<.Mjölnir.> you guys see too much at times…I am just a rolling stone

[16:29]<.Mjölnir.> sorry if I hurt any feeling out there

[16:29]<He-Man> more like rolling stoned mjol

[16:29]<.Mjölnir.> lol cannot argue that mate

[16:30]<.Mjölnir.> many visit aliances with no issue

Some players, however, remain skeptical. SIN troll extraordinaire Stukahh couldn’t let it go with Mjo, seeking to cast doubt among those in GC about the true nature of the Storm co-founder’s visit to TUF:

[16:30]<Stukahh> lol

[16:30]<Stukahh> come on

[16:30]<Stukahh> as least be honest abbout it

[16:30]<.Mjölnir.> I did not realise I have poparazzi

[16:30]<Stukahh> this is not a random visit

[16:31]<Bulani> People visit alliance at peace

[16:31]<Stukahh> Your buddy is on the verge of being dismantled

Whether Mjo’s appearance in TUF is directly related to the current Dlord/TUF-Tuna war, and whether he will actually fight on TUF’s side, remains to be seen. However, his appearance has most definitely raised some eyebrows, casting a new dimension of intrigue into a war that appears all tied up after a strong Dlords showing in the last round.

Dlords on a Roll; Breaks 2 More TUF Sieges

“Enemy troops were horribly timed and lacked any cohesion at all — a hallmark of TUF military efforts.” – Dlord Leader Belegar Ironhammer

More outcomes in the recent round of heavy sieging and fighting between Dlords and TUF are being reported to the Times, with Dlords once again chalking up more wins — this time in the defensive column.

Dlord officials confirmed the successful TUF siege break reported earlier on Gori’s city of Helm’s Deep, with the Dlords noting that the siege included 57 catapults and “tens of thousands of troops to begin with.” Xaylia picked up the final siege break, featuring ajqtrz’s forces in the combat report:

Dlords Nab City from TUF in Recent Spate of Sieges

The Dwarven Lords have captured a city as part of a busy round of sieging for both sides in the ongoing Dlords/TUF-Tuna war. Dlords officials shared with the Times confirmation of the city capture, which was executed by Jack Aubrey:

TUF’s Karl Aegis Targets Dlords’ Gori in Azura

Screen Shot 2015-07-13 at 9.40.41 AMTUF is continuing to take the fight to Dlords in Elgea, despite the dwarven alliance’s robust footprint there. The most recent siege involves TUF’s Karl Aegis laying down a siege on Dlords’ Gori in Azura. News of the siege flashed across GC earlier:

[12:25]<System> ** News Flash: Gori’s [Dlord] large town of 4. Helms Deep is now under siege by Karl Aegis’ [TUF] burgeoning city of Harmony’s Perch

Followed by an official posting in the siege section of the Herald:

Gori [Dlord] 4. Helms Deep [-582|-794] in Azura Karl Aegis [TUF] Mon 25 Apr 12:25

The siege may be a difficult one for Aegis, as the siege and blockade are both on plains sieges, which are usually susceptible to cavalry strikes. In the case of the Dlords, however, where cavalry is not the race’s strong suit, the choice of a plains siege may prove to be more viable.

Dlords Break TUF Siege; Heavy Use of Ranged Units Reported

The Dlords have broken TUF’s recent siege in Elgea, quickly staunching the most recent siege in a long pause in the war. An anonymous tipster provided details of the breaks to the Times, indicating that elfs bane’s siege on Gladys AxeWright’s city of Forest of Jean was broken by Dlords’ Jokielle at 23 Apr 2016 at 05:54.

Jokielle was also reported to have broken the other siege headed by TUF’s Nikodemos at 23 Apr 2016 01:09. The tipster specifically reported that “many of the attacks came from Jokielle, including large ranged unit armies.”

The terrain for both sieges would have been unfavorable for use of bow units, since the small hill affords no bonus and a large forest penalizes the use of bows by -20%. It is possible that the siege break may have been costly for Jokielle, earning poor ratios in exchange for the siege break.

TUF Gets Tough With Dlords in Elgea, Reigniting War

Screen Shot 2015-07-10 at 7.27.01 PMJust as the war between Dlords and TUF-Tuna appeared to be petering out, a new siege has begun, once more reigniting the action. News of the new siege being led by elfs bane, TUF leader Agalloch’s alt, as well as Nikodemos, flashed across GC earlier:

[12:00]<System> ** News Flash: Gladys AxeWright’s [Dlord] large city of Forest of Jean is now under siege by Elfs Bane’s [TUF] sprawling city of..Thunderdome

Later, details of the siege operation were posted in the siege section of the Herald:

Gladys AxeWright [Dlord] Forest of Jean [233|215] in Middle Kingdom Nikodemos [TUF] Fri 22 Apr 10:29
Gladys AxeWright [Dlord] Forest of Jean [231|216] in Middle Kingdom Elfs Bane [TUF] Fri 22 Apr 12:00

TUF has positioned their sieges on a small hill and forest, which will prove daunting considering Dlords’ close proximity to the city as well as their stalwart ranks. At the time of this article’s writing, units that looked to be cavalry speed were seen streaming toward the siege on the small hill.

Lull in Dlords/TUF-Tuna War After TUF Dumps Bikey John To Avoid Quadruple Raze

Screen Shot 2015-08-15 at 11.31.17 AM

There has been little action in the Dlords/TUF-Tuna war in the wake of three sieges by the Dlords on a recently dropped TUF member in Elgea revealing that, despite attempts to control the narrative in GC, TUF likely dropped their alliance mate to avoid having to defend a hopeless Elgean TUF member and suffer falling behind in the war.

Well-timed Dlords sieges against Bikey John flashed across the screen in GC last week in triplicate, followed by a posting of them in the Herald’s siege section (the fourth siege arrived later). TUF co-leader viperone was quick to get out in front of the issue concerning the siege, claiming in GC that Dlords’ targeting of Bikey John amounted to targeting inactives:

[08:51]<viperone> clarifying ‘bikey john’ is not a permasat…rather a semi active player who was not aware DLords had declared war on TUF
[08:51]<viperone> so it looks like DLords is doing exactly what they accused TUF of doing and attacking non active players…..how ironic
[08:53]<viperone> skips merrily over to his neon pink siege blocks….sits down
[08:53]<Chris G> stirring the pot are we viper?
[08:54]<viperone> no clarifying remarks made earlier
[08:54]<viperone> just the truth chris

However, despite viperone’s claim that Bikey John is a “semi active player,” his growth chart indicates steady builds, recent attack and diplo activity, and even a possible exodus over the past 30 days:

An independent Illyriad Times investigation in fact reveals that that the timing of Bikey John’s departure from TUF coincides with a triple-launch of Dlords siege on him in Elgea. Bikey’s profile indicates that he left the alliance on Aprill 11th:

Player Alliance From To
Bikey John The Unfettered [TUF] 30 Oct 2015 11:45 11 Apr 2016 19:37

After Dlords leader Belegar Ironhammer confirmed to the Times that the siege armies traveled at the maximum dwarf siege velocity of 7.5, the Times used the GC and Herald siege information together with Digioso’s Distance and Travel Speed Calculator to confirm that Bikey John either left the alliance or was booted by TUF leadership after sieges were en route.

Siege 1:

[08:00]<System> ** News Flash: Bikey John’s small city of Blacktop City is now under siege by Belegar Ironhammer’s [Dlord] huge city of Karak Hirn
Bikey John Blacktop City [-200|-193] in Tor Carrock Belegar Ironhammer [Dlord] Thu 14 Apr 08:00
According to DillyTools:
Distance between 429/-326 and -201/-193 is 643.886 squares.
It would take this unit 3 days, 13 hours, 51 minutes and 5 seconds to travel this distance.

Siege 2:

[08:00]<System> ** News Flash: Bikey John’s city of Campfire City is now under siege by Jack Aubrey’s [Dlord] huge city of Ashgrove
Bikey John Campfire City [-225|-214] in Tor Carrock Jack Aubrey [Dlord] Thu 14 Apr 08:00
According to DillyTools:
Distance between 407/-356 and -224/-214 is 646.780 squares.
It would take this unit 3 days, 14 hours, 14 minutes and 14 seconds to travel this distance.

Siege 3:

[08:01]<System> ** News Flash: Bikey John’s thriving town of Pikey Park is now under siege by Curiam Nicht’s [Dlord] huge city of 4. Schnauzer
Bikey John Pikey Park [-200|-204] in Tor Carrock Curiam Nicht [Dlord] Thu 14 Apr 08:01
According to DillyTools:
Distance between 515/-361 and -200/-203 is 732.249 squares.
It would take this unit 4 days, 1 hours, 37 minutes and 59 seconds to travel this distance.
A fourth siege opened up on Bikey John later, after this initial grouping:

Screen Shot 2015-07-19 at 10.05.04 AM
The cities appear to have been subsequently razed, and Belegar confirmed that TUF did not contest the razes.
For the purposes of scoring sieges on the Illyriad Times‘ War Score Card, the editorial staff’s policies do not require a player to be active — only that the player be in the alliance at the time a siege touches down. The rules also protect against alliances from dropping players from their ranks to avoid being counted as a raze, and then adding them back:
” . . . if an alliance drops a player out of the alliance before a siege touches down, it will not count on the War Score Card unless the alliance re-instates that player after the siege. If the player is reinstated at any point during the war, any sieges conducted against his or her cities will be retroactively scored for the sieging alliance. However, if the player is never brought back in, then we deem it as a victory for the sieging alliance in that their siege effectively chased out an enemy combatant, weakening the alliance.”

The razes will not count on the war’s War Score Card. However, if Bikey John is reinstated back into TUF or Tuna during the war, all three razes will be retroactively scored in Dlords’ favor. However, based on Belegar’s comments to the Times, that is unlikely. “Bikey John never reached out to surrender until after the sieges landed and then by way of a 3rd party,” noted Ironhammer. “We never reached an agreement and decided to leave him with 3 cities as was customary in the old days of Illyriad. The account has since moved to a training alliance. I consider it to be a poorly-managed permasat (his largest city lost 6k pop in an apparent food shortage a week or so before we attacked) so we are no longer concerned about it.”

The uncontested sieges on Bikey John have been the only action in the war since a battle on April 9th when the Dlords executed a decisive siege break against TUF leader Agalloch, claiming that he lost a million troops in the melee.
