Unbow Exoduses Away 3 Plains Cities From Oncoming SIN Catapults

Unbow appears to be falling back, seeking to avoid any battles in Newlands involving what may be siege operations. SIN officials shared notifications indicating that Unbow exodused three cities away from their oncoming catapults in the face of a major SIN offensive.

The first exodus purportedly came just after SIN launched a catapult assault at Unbow leader Baynights’ city of Cerberus:

Your army named sov a from Z2 Zarn 2 under orders to Attack target town Cerberus at location [87|-2266] in Newlands has discovered that the target town is exodusing!

Your army will continue onto [87|-2266] in Newlands where it’s orders to Attack are now to attack location [87|-2266] in Newlands. Combat will resolve normally and your army will begin returning immediately after combat resolution.

According to DillyTools, the city has yet to reappear, suggesting that the new location of the city may not be in the Newlands/High Hills region, but rather back in Elgea or another area of the Broken Lands.

The second exodus was Fyzz’s city of Ebony Spire:

SIN officials described this part of their operation as a “siege fake,” but intent to fake the siege could not be independently confirmed by the notification. Ebony Spire has also yet to reappear and remains to be seen where it is headed.

The third exodus came from Unbow leader Halcyon’s city of South Beach, which was also targeted in a SIN siege:

Your army named Siege Force from Rollerblade Success Story under orders to Siege target town South Beach at location [261|-2258] in Newlands has discovered that the target town is exodusing!

Your army will continue onto [261|-2258] in Newlands where it’s orders to Siege are now to attack location [261|-2258] in Newlands. Combat will resolve normally and your army will begin returning immediately after combat resolution.

All three of these target cities were completely surrounded by plains — usually an optimal situation for a defending alliance, since cavalry units can be used effectively to break sieges.

SIN Breaks 6th Unbow Siege at 136|-2148

Screen Shot 2015-10-23 at 9.45.10 am[136|-2148] — remember those coordinates. It is home to a small abandoned campsite on plains, as well as the most siege-broken square in Newlands History. SIN officials shared details of what marks the sixth siege on this spot, with the first attempted siege by SHARK being broken in mid-November 2015.

The final hit came from SIN member DML, who hit the remaining siege stack with a palpable cavalry force:

Two opposing forces clash against each other.

Cavalry comes into its own when able to strike hostile forces at will, and from unexpected directions – and nowhere is this more feasible than on open plains. Lightly armoured spear units, however, prefer terrain where there’s some cover available.

Fighting defensively on open plains, cavalry draws strength from the ability to form and reform their lines of engagement depending on the direction of battle, and it is here where cavalry excels.

Attackers: Unit: Quantity: Casualties: Survivors:
Commander: D11-K4 Knight 1 Damaged for 30, 170 health remains.
Troops: Knights 30000 9219

The spot is tantalizing for Unbow, since it affords them an opportunity to siege an otherwise “unsiegeable” SIN position in the Newlands. However, that single siege square is fraught with difficulties, as it is on plains, and the lack of any other free square makes it impossible to blockade the city.

The following is a list of the previous five siege attempts on the city:

Halcyon’s failed siege joins the ranks of these five. This is now the 24th siege that SIN has broken. The last attempted siege by Unbow/SHARK/VIC was on this very site nearly a month ago, which was also broken.

SHARK Lands 4 Sieges in BL in Major Push Against TVM; TVM Answers With Northmarch Siege

Screen Shot 2015-07-13 at 9.40.41 AMMilitary operations appear to be on the move in the Newlands War, as a total of 5 total sieges have posted in the Herald, 4 of which were initiated by SHARK. All four of the sieges landed in relatively close succession today:

elguapo [TVM] Cudillero [-303|-2067] in Oarnamly Allyssar [SHARK] Tue 20 Oct 11:48
GrrlyOrc [TVM] Bondage Barracks [-149|-2076] in Oarnamly Halcyon [SHARK] Wed 21 Oct 11:59
mccannj [TVM] The Golan Heights [-232|-2104] in Oarnamly Spekkio [SHARK] Wed 21 Oct 12:00
Lord Moonpie [TVM] Borax [-368|-1828] in Northmarch Hevneren [SHARK] Wed 21 Oct 13:39

A secondary siege has also set up on Lord Moonpie:

Lord Moonpie [TVM] Borax [-366|-1828] in Northmarch Hevneren [SHARK] Thu 22 Oct 00:41

The three Oarnamly sieges are set right within the TVM heartland against the alliance’s some of the more high-profile players.

TVM did, however, answer with a siege of their own, in Northmarch:

Allyssar [SHARK] DiamondIsle [-444|-1817] in Northmarch vgsrhhheth [RE] Wed 21 Oct 16:21

The Times will monitor these sieges, but also asks TVM and SHARK to cooperate with us in helping report the most accurate stories of siege outcomes of all of these battles.

DSD Steadfast in Avoiding Full-Scale War With SHARK in Newlands

Screen Shot 2015-07-25 at 9.34.52 PMRhetoric remains high in the TVM/SHARK conflict in Newlands, with leaders from both alliances as well as DSD trading barbs in a heated Illyriad forum debate that has appeared to have not moved the needle on the issue of who will eventually control the key strategic BL peninsula, or whether both alliances can eventually coexist. While tension still exists, no sieges have posted between the two alliances, nor is there any indication that full war will be declared at this point.

The forum discussion has mainly focused on debatable topics such as whether negotiating over a land claim policy indicates that an alliance recognizes said claim, or whether SHARK’s intentions were to move to Newlands to provoke a war with TVM or not. Regardless, the meandering debate has led to some key political statements indicating that other power brokers in the game are reluctant to enter the conflict.

EXCLUSIVE: Leaked Communications Reveal How Lorcan/Odo PvP Led to SHARK/TVM Escalation

Screen Shot 2015-09-16 at 9.59.12 amIGMs, PCs and in-game private conversations leaked by TVM and SHARK between key players involved in the current standoff indicate that a Lorcan siege on Odoacer in their proposed pvp matchup was the touchstone for what could lead to full-scale war in the Newlands peninsula.

In a forum thread started by Halcyon on September 14th, the SHARK leader indicated that the current conflict between his alliance and TVM was the result of TVM aggression against Odoacer — a claim that TVM leadership has contested. “I would like to make it clear that the only reason for the current conflict in NewLands is that TVM has attacked SHRKr,” stated Halcyon in his first post. He went on to note that Lorcan’s motivation for engaging in a pvp duel with Odoacer was the result of Odo’s town placement within TVM’s land claim: “Their pretext is that SHRKr towns have been placed inside their land claim.”

In a later post, Halcyon expanded on the situation between Lorcan and Odoacer, stating: “The PVP agreement between Lorcan and Odoacer did not include relocation of towns and I have proof of THAT.”

To add context and evidence to this situation, both TVM and SHARK submitted to the Times the communications that took place prior to the pvp that reference the claims made in the forums.

Halcyon Indicates Roman Empire Preparing to Support TVM as Conflict Further Escalates

Screen Shot 2015-07-27 at 1.30.20 PMIn a candid post on the Illyriad Forums, SHARK leader Halcyon indicated that he and his alliance’s leadership suspect Roman Empire involvement in their escalating conflict in Newlands with TVM over SHARK and SHRKr cities in the Trivium land claim. Hal’s comments appeared to confirm the cause of the dispute as being land claim related, and suggested that the conflict could widen if TVM draws in other DSD members.

“I would like to make it clear that the only reason for the current conflict in NewLands is that TVM has attacked SHRKr,” began Halcyon. “Their pretext is that SHRKr towns have been placed inside their land claim.”

Hal went on to accuse RE of sending a scout force against a SHARK city, likely in the Newlands region, which is said to be staging for a flurry of battles. “The reason that I’m making this statement is that another land claiming alliance -Roman Empire – has already scouted a SHARK town and I can only assume that they are planning to join TVM’s aggression against us.”

Halcyon concluded with a stark warning to both TVM and RE, ostensibly seeking to send a thinly-veiled threat to the entirety of DSD: “At this time and before major damage is caused, SHARK has only one demand of TVM and RE: halt your aggression. ” Continue reading
