Deathmongers NAP with Shu-Han in Bid To Deter Outside Interference in Ongoing Han/Stark Conflict

Screen Shot 2015-07-26 at 3.37.16 PMThe Deathmongers [Death] have signed a non-aggression pact with Shu-Han [Han] as a deterrent against potential outside interference from other larger alliances in the event of a future Han/Stark war. The announcement came directly from Death leadership, who told the Times:

“Death’s formal stance on Han and Stark conflict is as follows: As an alliance who has had to deal with outside help to deter our many battles, we feel that the way the last conflict ended was not fair to both sides, especially Han’s. In the event of outside play by House Stark, Death will be throwing its hat in the conflict as well.”

Along with this statement, Death also included the time stamp of the Han/Death NAP announcement in GC:

Shu-Han/Stark Tension Heating Up Again As Han Claims Stark Spy Discovered; NAP Dropped

Screen Shot 2015-08-30 at 10.21.51 AM
Han alleges that Edward Elric is a Stark spy.

Tensions appear to be on the rise again between Shu-Han [Han] and House Stark [Stark], with Han leadership reporting to the Times that they have purportedly discovered and ousted a Stark spy from their ranks. The initial allegation was made to the editorial team on August 27th when Han leadership stated: “After a month long investigation (spawned by the leaked [alliance-wide] mail in the beginning of the second Shu-House Stark War) we have found and removed the House Stark spy (Edward Elric).”

It appears that the leaked alliance-wide mail in question was one that Stark reportedly presented as evidence to players like Bimoda and alliances such as Wheel of Time [WoT], who went on to actively support Stark in the war. The IGM framed Han’s mission to engage Stark motivated in part by House Stark leader PhoenixFire’s unilateral surrender from the loose coalition of land claimers in the Stomp war and Stark’s subsequent dissolution of its land claim.

The Times followed up with Han and also reached out to Stark leader PhoenixFire for comments. Stark leadership has not commented on the matter since the story came to our attention on the 27th.

In their reply, Han leadership explained that the alleged spy was discovered through a disinformation plan as part of the mole hunt:

“Simple process recommended to me by a few allies: feed information out that would be irresistible to our enemies and track it. We had suspected Edward for some time, and we aren’t new to House Stark trying to infiltrate our alliance. Back in Feb 2015 a House Stark account (Maltock) attempted to infiltrate our alliance. In July 18, one of my lower ranked members brought in Maltock again (re-created to infiltrate Broken Blades, and later Shu-Han). Spying on their neighbors is a House Stark past-time.”

In spite of Han’s claim that they indeed confirmed Edward Elric as a spy, the Times cannot independently verify this to be the case, as no incontrovertible evidence was presented to our editorial staff.
As an immediate response, Han terminated Edward Elric from their roster and appears ready to remove the alleged spy’s cities from their land claim and surrounding areas. “Obviously we cannot let this sort of thing go,” Han leadership noted. “The agent has been removed from the alliance, and is awaiting removal from Chengdu.”
Han went on question Stark’s supposed efforts to continue spying, even in the wake of the two alliances’ peace agreement in August. “We question why Phoenixfire claims now to just want to settle and be peaceful, yet he keeps a spy in an Almenly alliance,” Han leadership added. “We find it difficult to forgive our old foe for  attempting to kick Shu-Han out of Almenly all those months ago when they do not hesitate to send operatives against us.  If they are truly in the interest of peace then we call for them to act like agents of peace.”
If Edward Elric was indeed a Stark spy, it is not the only breach of peace between the two alliances. The Times also noted while researching this story that the NAP between Han and Stark, which was imposed by the peace accord signed at the end of the Han/Stark war and reported on August 1st has been dissolved. The terms set forth by top Stark negotiator Bimoda at the time clearly stated that “HAN and STARK will enter into an NAP.”
It remains to be seen if both alliances are headed toward what would be their third conflict since the launch of the Broken Lands. However, these recent developments indicate that the relative peace established last month is already proving to be short-lived between these neighboring alliances in Almenly.

BIG HITS EXCLUSIVE: GM Stormcrow Weighs In on Han’s Attempt To Use Magic To Repel a Stark Siege

Screen Shot 2015-07-22 at 10.11.02 AMJon Snow flailed through a thicket of brambles and tumbled out onto the north-south Almenly road in terror. Behind him, the enchanted echoes of the spirits of cursed elven warriors of generations past called out for his blood. The forest around him — one of the most spectacular in the Broken Lands — seemed to blight and decay around him into sweeping darkness. His only chance to escape this wickedness was to flee back to his city of Winterfell. Perhaps there, he thought, behind its massive wall and protected by the city’s mages, would he be free of this curse.

Bloodied from his terror-filled tear through the woods, he limped as quickly as he could until he came to a fork in the road. To the right, the road would continue northward, taking him back to where his siege army had just attempted to storm the gates at Evilbanking7’s city of M3. Meeting only token resistance at first, all had gone wrong once he and his storm force crossed the threshold into the city square, and the spirits of the disquieted elven dead seeped from the city’s dark shadows, enveloping he and his troops in a terrifying, mystical fear. “Never will I look upon that city again,” he whispered to himself. “And perhaps never upon this accursed region of Almenly, for that matter.”

At the fork in the road, a makeshift sign for Winterfell pointed down the western leg of the highway. Up ahead, the rotten, petrified forest seemed to give way to pastels, sun-lit glades, and safety. “That’s the way!” Jon reassured himself. “This is the surely the way out of this nightmare.”

As he took his first step toward the western route, a firm hand grasped his shoulder. “Jon? What the hell are you doing? What the hell are you all doing?”

It was Phoenix, his commander, who looked upon his face in bewilderment. “Do you not know, commander?” he asked, perplexed. “Have you not seen the elven spirits? They are coming for our blood!”

Screen Shot 2015-07-22 at 1.23.43 PMAt once, Phoenix recognized that Jon and the others he had seen pouring out of the forest along the north-south were under the effects of a powerful spell. “Pull yourself together, man!” he intoned, slapping Phoenix at full force. “These elven spirits are folly! They are the work of elven magic.”

Jon Snow was incredulous that his eyes could have so profoundly deceived him. “Sir . . . no. You were not there, sir. You did not see what I saw. What we all saw . . . ”

“The spirits of the elves — we all know that they do not linger when they are parted from their bodies in this world,” said Phoenix, taking a softer, more reassuring tone. “The city had no defenses left, Jon. All they had left was their magic. We have to go back.”

Snow began to weep. His commander spoke with earnestness, but the fear in his heart was still palpable. And yet he knew that he’d have to enter M3 again, this time confronting not the defender’s spear, but the greatest fear he had ever beheld in this life. “We have to go back, Jon!” Phoenix insisted, shaking his officer out of his din. “We must assemble who we have left and finish this!”

Screen Shot 2015-07-20 at 10.05.35 AMSnow wiped his eyes and composed himself, nodding to the ground in agreement though every fiber of his being conflicted that sentiment.

“Let’s spread out along the road,” said Phoenix. “We’ll collect all who is left, and rendezvous at the siege site in six hours. And take heart, Jon — this grand victory is still in hand. This victory will staunch your fear.”

Snow and Phoenix mustered all who they could find — they numbered less than 300, including the 4 idle catapults left in the field. But it was enough to take M3 that afternoon — the city fell without bloodshed, as there were no soldiers left to fight. Stark forces scattered the remaining townfolk and razed the city. It was Snow himself who torched the mage tower.

Yet in spite of the victory, the destruction of that city’s mage tower, and Phoenixfire’s promises, that fear never left Jon Snow, and 30 years later, as an old man resting in front of his hearth on an early winter night, he still thought he could feel the cold, dead fingers of the elven spirits upon his shoulders.

Bimoda Returns To Fairy After Making Major Mark On 2 Wars

Bimoda takes aim at land claimers.

Bimoda has returned to her permanent alliance at the Illyria Fairy Nation [Fairy]. Her return marks a 6-week odyssey that led her to make a major impact in two of the three major wars that have gripped the game for the better part of the 2015 summer.

Much like Illy’s version of Simon Bolivar or Garibaldi, Bimoda took up the causes of the embattled alliances she visited, making major, well-documented contributions in both. In the Stomps/Claimers war, Bimoda was one of only two Stompers who successfully completed a siege, capturing one of House Stark leader Phoenixfire’s cities in Elgea. This battle led to her making contact with PF and eventually using that newfound relationship to sway his thinking on Stark’s enforcement of a land claim, subsequently spurring on Stark’s abrupt shift from being a pro- to anti-land claim alliance.

Bimoda left Stomps on July 24th in what at first appeared to be yet another Stomper abandoning the alliance as it incurred raze after raze at the hands of the land claimers. In an exclusive interview with the Times, however, Bimoda explained that she moved with the express purpose of returning to Stomps after assisting PF and House Stark in the wake of Han’s war declaration:

My leaving STOMP had nothing to do with an abandonment of them or their cause.  During our fight against the land claimers, I had the opportunity to talk with Phoenixfire during my two sieges against  him.  I added him on my friend list and we kept in contact during the conflict.  We discussed the reasons for the war and the reasons I joined and the reasons that STARK joined.  Throughout it all, we had very polite and constructive communications.

When I negotiated the peace between STARK and STOMP, I foresaw the possibility that some other LC alliance may try to take advantage of STARK’s weakened state or look for vengeance against them for leaving trying the more peaceful path of DoH.  I told him that if this came about, I would do what I could to help them.

Bimoda went on to explain that her decision to leave Stomps was solidified after receiving a key piece of intel:

Sure enough, soon after, I received this intelligence leaked out of HAN:

Friends & Family

We recently entered into a confed with Broken Blades as we will be fighting on behalf of the land claimers.  We are banding together to clear up House Stark due to the way they act and talked down to other alliances.  House Stark from the beginning has always thrown insults at Shu-Han.  The council bit their tongue to avoid any wars. As Phoenixfire was warned many times that these insults would become into a full blown war if he kept it up and he did.  One of his last insults was about Shu-Han not being in the LC much. Now he turned his back on the LCs and tucked his tail in-between his legs. He is now under STOMPs control. This act alone is cowardly. But the fact his insult to us about not being in the war much then tucking his tail and running I say he should be dealt with.

Friends and allies rally for our cause. We are getting all our abled men ready for the war. We are getting ready for what may lie ahead.  We intend to capture land and cities on this war. We’ve sat by watching as these barbarians insulted us and now its time to fight. We expect everyone from the senior members and up to be war ready. Newer players you are safe. If you would like to contribute please feel free to message any council member. We are not requiring any new player to get in this war.

It would appear that Bimoda perhaps anticipated that the Han/Stark was would escalate against Stark’s favor, fearing that Han’s proclamation that they were “fighting on behalf of the land claimers” would motivate other land claiming alliances to come to their aid in the war. With B!B never involving itself militarily on Han’s behalf and the only escalation coming from Bimoda and WoT on the side of Stark, however, this intercepted IGM from Han appears to have been more prophetic of how the war played out to Stark’s benefit rather than Han’s.

Through all of this, Bimoda maintains that her motivations were altruistic in helping Stark, seeing as she played a key role in them changing their positions on land claims — a position she sensed could lead them into trouble: “I stood by my word to give them aid and rally others to stand by them as well.  Unfortunately, HAN felt that they could attack a weakened target and expect that they would receive no aid.  Hopefully other aggressive alliances with have second thoughts before trying the same.”

Regarding the issues with WoT becoming involved on Stark’s behalf, Bimoda appeared unapologetic, concluding: “I really want to thank those in WoT that showed their support and joined STARK and for WoT as a whole for showing their support with Confederation.”

Han Accepts Stark Surrender Terms, Leaks Terms To Times

Peace has been reached in the Han/Stark war, but resentment remains high in the Han camp, with details of the surrender terms offered by Stark being leaked to the Times by Han leadership. As of this morning server time, there was no longer a declaration of war between the two almenly alliances, indicating that the terms had been accepted by Han. B!B has yet to agree to terms with Stark in a war declaration that was largely symbolic and sympathetic to the Han declaration.

In a message to the Times, Shu-Han leadership offered the final draft of surrender terms for publication. The first and third sentences of the message have been redacted because they involved personal details regarding one of the key players involved in the war.

Since in my opinion their [Stark’s] losses weren’t extreme, I’ve implemented what I feel is a fair amount.  Please IGM me if you have questions or concerns.HAN agrees to pay reparations of 20M to cover military and diplomatic losses to STARK

HAN agrees to respect the boundaries of STARK’s Declaration of Homeland (DoH)

HAN agrees to not settle within the DoH, keeping all cities to the West of it’s boundaries.

HAN and STARK Agree to end all military and diplomatic attacks immediately, It will be understood that in progress attacks may land, but will be recalled as soon as possible.

HAN and STARK will enter into an NAP

At present, Han and Stark still do not have a NAP, and Han leadership indicated that it has not been offered yet. It also remains to be seen if Han leaking the surrender terms is in itself a breach of the agreement between both parties, as in past Elgean wars, surrender terms have remained sealed from the public.

The Han/Stark war was a brief yet acrimonious war fought largely in Almenly. While both alliances in and of themselves are small, the 9 days of active war between them involved spirited sieges and siege breaks, due to their close proximity to one another in Almenly. In spite of Han being the aggressor, the alliance suffered embarrassing and frustrating early setbacks caused by what appeared to be mis-timed sieged and a glitchy siege outcome that led to the razing of one of their cities — the only successful raze in the war.

Han’s final siege attempt on House Stark leader Phoenixfire was broken by WoT member Hawk, who joined the alliance hours before his troops broke the Han siege. Hawk and several other members’ volunteering to join Stark in the war has led to concern and frustration from some players in the BL who feel that WoT interfered in the outcome of an otherwise regional, one-on-one war.

Han leadership was quoted in a Times comment as saying that coercive power was being used to keep Han from enlisting additional help to counter hers and WoT’s bolstering of Stark’s military might: “Bimoda assured me that if Trivium or SIN dared to place volunteers in Shu to re-balance it, she would just add more in Stark. It went from an event fight to an unbalanced fight. Stark didn’t win anything, Bimoda and those with a similar political agenda won.”

While peace has been reached in the war, it remains to be seen if this will be the final chapter in the ongoing Han/Stark tension.

Han/Stark Peace Talk Ongoing; Han: “We Recognize This Victory as a Victory for WoT”

Peace negotiations appeared to be progressing late on Thursday night between Shu-Han and House Stark in ending a short but acrimonious war in Almenly over land claims, personality clashes, and politics. However, in spite of talks proceeding on surrender terms for Han, resentment for what Han and others in the game see as political and military interference from the likes of Elgean-dominant players and alliances appeared to be on the rise.

In a brief message to the Times, Han leadership simply stated: “Shu-han is finalizing Peace. We recognize this victory as a victory for WoT.”

The suggested terms for surrender is still unknown, though some pundits in Illyriad have postulated if one of the terms may be the dissolution of the Han land claim. Stark, who managed to gain the upper hand in the war early with a successful raze and two siege breaks against Han, one of which was launched by WoT member Hawk who joined Stark hours before the break, essentially flipped on the issue of land claims nearing the end of the Stomps/claimers war, dissolving their own small land claim in Almenly and aligning with Fairy member Bimoda, who joined Stark to help in the war effort.

The additions of Bimoda, Hawk, and a couple other WoT players, along with WoT establishing a confederation with Stark, have all been directly or indirectly tied to House Stark leader Phoenixfire’s decision to rescind the Stark land claim, replacing it with a “DoH” that does not enforce settlement restriction. The Elgean-based anti-land claimer involvement is purportedly raising concern among BL leaders who are seeking to limit Elgean influence in BL wars.

Shu-Han Reportedly Suing For Peace in Han/Stark War

The palpable pause in military activity in the Han/Stark war has precipitated a call for peace from Shu-Han. The peace offering, which appears to have put into place a relative cease-fire for the war, comes just 9 days after Han declared war on Stark, citing a litany of charges, including a perceived betrayal on the part of House Stark leader Phoenixfire to rescind his land claim as well as personal jabs and insults on both sides of the fray.

The tip came directly from Han leadership via the Illyriad Forums: personal message system:

Shu attempting peace out
After WoT throwing in their weight with House Stark, we are attempting a peace out

A quick review of the Shu-Han profile page confirmed that an official peace offering as been made by Han:

Peace offered

House Stark [Stark]

Shu-Han [Han]

The Times reached out to both Han leadership and Phoenixfire for additional information about possible surrender terms and how the war would resolve some of the stated regional land control issues in Almenly. Currently, Han and Stark dominate that BL region, and Han maintains a large claim. It remains to be seen if PH will demand Han drop or alter the size of their claim as part of surrender terms.

WoT Member Joins Stark, Smashes Han Siege at Highgarden

Screen Shot 2015-07-26 at 3.37.16 PMThe Times has learned that the latest siege mounted by Shu-Han on House Stark has been broken by a Wheel of Time (WoT) member who joined Stark less than 10 hours before destroying the Han siege.

News of the siege break was provided by Stark leader Phoenixfire, noting that “the Siege on Highgarden was broken by Hawk at 23:47 july 25th.” No battle report was provided.

A quick search of Hawk’s profile revealed that he made the move to Stark on July 25th at 13:55 server time. Ten hours later, his forces broke what has become the second broken siege for Han.

Hawk maintains 9 large cities in the nearby Broken Lands region of Aindara.

The Times reached out to WoT’s The Diva and is awaiting an official response from WoT on Hawk’s departure from their alliance and their position in the war. WoT and Shark signed a confederation agreement yesterday at 25 15:49 ST.

Hawk’s addition to Stark follows Bimoda’s volunteering of help a day before. The additional personnel in Stark as well as the new confederation with WoT suggests to some that WoT plans to become militarily involved in the war and escalate it.

New Han Siege Targets Phoenixfire’s City of Highgarden in Oarnamly

Han’s siege camp outside of Highgarden

Today, Han initiated a new siege in Oarnamly against Phoenixfire in the alliance’s second bid at razing the House Stark leader. The Herald posted the details of the new operation in its siege section:

Player Being Sieged: Phoenixfire [Stark] City: 2. Highgarden [-157|-2035] in Oarnamly Sieger: Princess Botchface [Han] Date/Time: Sat 25 Jul 00:28

Princess Botchface has been a vocal leader for Han in the outset of a war, as well as a vocal critic of PF, particularly in his decision to dissolve the Stark land claim and unilaterally make peace with Stomps in a political move that she and some others in the claimer’s movement feel was a betrayal. The Han/Stark war appears to be partially motivated by this sentiment.

Han Uses Magic To Delay Stark Siege; City Still Falls

Screen Shot 2015-07-22 at 1.23.43 PM
Evilbanking7 pictured casting the Ward of Insanity.

In a bizarre twist of sieging, storming, and magic, Shu-Han reportedly managed to temporarily delay House Stark’s siege at Evilbanking7’s city of M3 using rune magic before the city was razed by Phoenixfire some six hours after the spell had been successfully used.

According to battle reports provided by Shu-Han leadership, close to midnight server time last evening, Phoenixfire attempted to storm M3, after Stark siege engines had reduced the city’s population earlier in the evening. PF had cleared the city of troops, save for a few that were still being queued, and Han reinforcements sent to break the siege were still hours away from reaching the siege camp.

In spite of the siege army having reduced M3’s population enough to storm the city, the camp had been decimated by earlier attacks and only had 264 units left to storm with.

The highest rune EvilBanking7 purportedly had researched in the city was the Ward of Insanity, which is capable of driving away up to 300 units if the spell is successful.

Thanks to Han’s last attack on the Stark siege camp, they were able to note the 264 units remaining in PF’s siege camp.
