SIN Takes Down 3 of 4 Unbow/SHARK/VIC Cities in Recent Op; New Unbow, SIN Ops Land

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 10.07.37 pmSIN’s extended incursion into northern Newlands has netted them three more successful sieges, with the fourth bring broken by Unbow.

The operation, which begun with the touchdown of four sieges simultaneously across the Newlands peninsula, appeared to begin with a quick break of the siege on Elanderrich’s city of 01. Deloviana. Senior Illyriad Times pundit Zebraphile commented on the 24th, “The siege on 01. Deloviana has been broken. Now renamed Limp Sword’s Epic Fail,'” with Elanderrich renaming his city to troll Silent Sword, who initiated that siege. However, in spite of this loss, Silent Sword went to raze his two other sieges, along with a capture by Jejune. In the case of Silent Sword’s razes, while no activity was seen or reported around the Worker siege, there appeared to be fierce fighting at Valdoras’ city of Yavin 4.

SIN officials provided confirmations of the operations:

In addition, Zebraphile also called attention to a new round of sieges launched by Unbow and SIN:

“There are new sieges.

Wright [VIC] Garden Springs [264|-2246] in Newlands Snellman [SIN] Thu 24 Mar 05:14

Garden Springs has a population of only 319.

Goldy1 [SIN] 4 Deerfield [136|-2148] in Newlands Halcyon [Unbow] Thu 24 Mar 10:04

This town has been under siege before. One interesting thing to note is that Unbow have claimed sovereignty on a pair of squares close by which, if occupied by towns would form an unsiegeable pair. I presume the claiming of sovereignty allows exodus to occur within 10 squares of 4 Deerfield.

There are at least two other such pairs of unoccupied squares surrounded by impassable terrain. If they were to be occupied it would seem to represent a determination by both sides in the conflict to dig in for the long haul.”

The Times concurs with Zebraphile on the assessment, as it appears that an Unbow effort is underway to place cities in close-by unsiegeable squares in order to engage 4 Deerfield. The Herald is reporting details of both sieges:

Goldy1 [SIN] 4 Deerfield [136|-2148] in Newlands Halcyon [Unbow] Thu 24 Mar 10:04
Wright [VIC] Garden Springs [264|-2246] in Newlands Snellman [SIN] Thu 24 Mar 05:14

Indeed, the city of 4 Deerfield — or more precisely, the land that that city sits on — is by the far the most sieged plot of land in NW2. Prior to Goldy1 occupying it, the land was occupied by Stukahh, who was repeatedly sieged there. The siege operation is incredibly tricky, since there is only one square to siege from, which is on plains. This affords immense bonuses for attacking cavalry. In addition, no simultaneous blockade can be put on the city, meaning that Goldy1 can build through the siege and buy time for additional cavalry hits. Unbow/SHARK/VIC have targeted this land with almost the same steadfastness as their engagement of He-Man in Kul-Tar, which led to an immense loss of troops on both sides of the early war.

SHARK Steps Up Pressure on SIN with Sieges in Pawanallpa, Newlands

Screen Shot 2015-10-21 at 10.41.59 pmSHARK has touched down two more sieges against SIN, targeting players in both Pawanallpa and the Newlands. The first of the two sieges is a reprise of the broken siege by ChuckNourish on Death Squad member The Reaper, with Longfeather once again testing the Pawanallpa-based SIN players:

The Reaper. [SIN] 3. Shake a LongFeather [847|-1647] in Pawanallpa longfeather [SHARK] Sun 29 Nov 07:23
The Reaper. [SIN] 3. Shake a LongFeather [846|-1645] in Pawanallpa longfeather [SHARK] Sun 29 Nov 05:50

Unlike the first siege operation launched by longfeather, which though substantial had no catapults or supporting forces, these two dual sieges appear to be more orchestrated. The Reaper’s cities, however, are located on plains, making the dual siege susceptible to cavalry strikes. Currently, there is no blockade.

Perhaps even more impressive is SHARK’s move to engage and remove antagonizer extraordinaire Stukahh, who has rooted himself in a spot in the center of Newlands with only one tile where a siege can be laid down — and a plains square at that. SHARK may be looking to leverage its massive armies to muscle its way toward a big, high-profile razing of the polarizing SIN member:

Stukahh [SIN] 7. Foot To The Throat [136|-2148] in Newlands Worker [SHARK] Sun 29 Nov 11:48

The city cannot be sieged and blockaded at the same time, so Stukahh may be able to prestige build the city and delay a raze in time for cavalry strikes.

Meanwhile, SIN’s siege on VIC’s Woolfie’s city of Sinope appears to be at a halfway point, with the city still boasting well over 1000 population. VIC has already managed a siege break on SIN, and may be poised to break this one as well, as SIN’s siege force has not appeared to reduce the city as quickly as other operations thus far seen in the war.

Stukahh Strikes Again; Stumped SHARK Siege in Newlands First Siege-Break For SIN

StukahhIllyriad bad boy Stukahh continues to make headlines in the early going of the SIN/SHARK-VIC war. After leading two of the three first successful sieges against SHARK, he has now broken a one-off siege in Newlands against one of his forward cities, giving SIN its first siege break of the tally.

The Herald reported the landing of the siege on 11 Nov 2015 01:40 by SHARK player Worker, who appears to have sent a one-off siege from his Newlands city of Durcton. A combat report sent to the Times by SIN leadership indicates that the Worker siege was not reinforced by other SHARK members, suggesting that the operation was likely not a coordinated SHARK effort, but rather a single attempt by Worker to challenge Stukahh’s city of Foot to the Throat, which is positioned in a region in central Newlands with only one viable square to siege from.

While SHARK has fallen behind slightly in the outset of this new war, the top-ranked alliance still doesn’t appear to have wielded its formidable armies as of yet, likely opting to save their firepower for a counter-offensive, similar to the arc of the Newlands war after weathering an early barrage of sieges by DSD South. In addition, VIC’s involvement in the war is still a major unknown, as no sieges involving VIC have been reported either in the Herald or tipped off to the Times. VIC’s additional support is likely to substantially improve SHARK’s odds in the war, as SIN will be hard-pressed to conduct sieges and defend itself against the first- and fourth-ranked alliances in SHARK and VIC, respectively.

SHARK City Falls to RE in First Official Raze in Newlands War

Screen Shot 2015-07-20 at 10.05.35 AMThe first successful siege has been recorded in the Newlands War, with Worker’s city of yodadoku suck re suk falling to RE leader Yodadoku’s siege. Times editors witnessed the storming and razing in real time.

Of the first four sieges launched by the DSD in the early rounds of the Newlands War, Yoda’s siege on Worker in Aindara could easily have been perceived the least likely to succeed. The city’s relative closeness to a SHARK enclave in the Kingslands region, as well as the choice to siege from plains instead of an adjacent small hills square, would have seemed to spell disaster for the effort. However, it appears that SHARK’s siege break in Shardlands against T-SC junior officer mjc2’s effort to raze Fyzz may have pulled fast-response resources from SHARK’s southern BL defensive forces.

Whatever the case, the razing gets DSD on the board with its first win. Together with its aggressive siege plan, they are challenging SHARK to traverse the BL map in order to break sieges ahead of what is likely to be a counter-offensive in the near future.

UPDATE: [UPDATED] DSD Breaks Solar Eclipse Siege, Exos; Ron Fay Breaks Pawa Siege; SHARK Aindara Town On the Ropes

[UPDATED –12:09 ST] There were several key developments regarding DSD’s first three sieges in their Newlands War against SHARK. It should be noted that neither DSD or SHARK officials can confirmed any of the following reports:

SHARK Breaks Siege on Shardlands City of Solar Eclipse, City exos.

The first siege in the Newlands war appears to have ended in a SHARK siege break and exo, with Fyzz’ city of Solar Eclipse being razed by mjc2 of T-SC. As of this morning server time, the city is gone and harvesters have been seen scrounging up equipment. Initially, the Times reported that the siege had been a success. Later, SHARK leader Halcyon confirmed with the Times that the siege was in fact broken by Pico:

Two opposing forces clash against each other.

Cavalry comes into its own when able to strike hostile forces at will, and from unexpected directions – and nowhere is this more feasible than on open plains. Lightly armoured spear units, however, prefer terrain where there’s some cover available.

Fighting defensively on open plains, cavalry draws strength from the ability to form and reform their lines of engagement depending on the direction of battle, and it is here where cavalry excels.

Worker’s Aindara City Reduced; Could Fall at Any Moment

RE leader Yodadoku’s siege on Worker’s city of “yodadoku suck re suk” in Aindara also appears to be progressing, with the city appearing to have lost a considerable amount of population in round-the-clock bombardments and a blockade that is still in place. Equipment left at the scene of the siege suggests that the siege force has been hit, and there are no reports available on the current condition of its siege potency. The Times believes that this city could fall at any moment.

Ron Fay Appears To Break Siege in Pawanallpa

SHARK warrior Ron Fay may have broken a siege on his city of AFTK in Pawanallpa. As of this morning, there is no sign of siege activity there.

Thus far, the Newlands War Score Card shows SHARK winning the war thus far in a defensive effort, with two siege breaks marked for SHARK.

Second DSD Siege in Newlands War Hits SHARK Target in Aindara

Screen Shot 2015-07-21 at 3.32.37 PMDark Star Dominion (DSD) forces, this time led by Roman Empire (RE) leader Yodadoku, have initiated a second siege against SHARK in the Newlands War, once again opting for a target that is not located on the Newlands peninsula. The Herald reported the new siege, which is targeting Worker’s freshly-renamed city of “yodadoku suck re suk:”

Worker [SHARK] yodadoku suck re suk [-769|-2151] in Aindara Yodadoku [RE] Sun 27 Sep 08:13

This current siege also has a blockade on the northwest square adjacent to the city, and surprisingly, Yodadoku opted to siege from a plains square as opposed to a small hill square. Plains afford substantial terrain attacking bonuses for cavalry — a likely advantage for the purportedly cavalry-laden SHARK. Conversely, small hills offer relatively neutral terrain modifiers for all troop types and are generally considered a more viable option for siege operations versus plains.

Meanwhile, there are new developments regarding DSD’s first siege launched by T-SC junior officer mjc2. As of yesterday, the siege does not include a blockade.

A Note To Combatants: When a city is razed or when a siege is broken, please send those reports to the Times via the Illyriad forums so that we can receive confirmation of the offensive/defensive victory. Thank you in advance!
